Good Eats
This project showcases the complete redesign of Good Eats’ site to ensure WCAG compliance and provide a significantly more seamless experience for users.
The Problem
Good Eats needed a way to effectively and accurately display each recipe on their site with a more accessible mobile layout.
The Process
My focus for this project was to provide a significantly more seamless and accessible experience for mobile users. To begin, I researched competitors who provided similar offerings to see what they did to accommodate mobile users. I noted the font choices, colors, and UI elements of each competitor. These notes served as guidance when creating the wireframes for the updated site, which is what I did next. I then developed the site using HTML, CSS and the wireframes I created, and consistently confirmed WCAG compliance using several accessibility testing sites. Ensuring full WCAG compliance gave me the confidence that there would be no major accessibility issues on my site, and that the majority of users would have a good experience.
Results
The more accessible mobile layout allowed Good Eats to stand out amongst the competition by offering a much more intuitive design. Good Eats site now feels purpose built for a significantly larger list of devices. This has eliminated many frustrations felt by users operating on older or less common devices, and provides a much better experience overall.
Background
Good Eats was created in 2015 and stands as a one-stop shop for those looking to discuss, share, and try out recipes for all types of foods. Good Eats has an active daily user count of 20,000 people and hosts thousands of recipes for users to view.
